建学理念

The mission of Kyoto International University is to educate students in the western style liberal arts tradition so they become informed, discerning citizens of their respective countries and the global community. Bilingual, as well, and competent in their chosen discipline of study, they will be prepared to live useful, fulfilling lives as individuals and family members who contribute positively to their society.

真の国際人が備えるべき教養

国際化という言葉が広く一般に定着する中、多くの人が諸外国に関する勉学に励み、また諸外国での留学を試みています。しかし外国の言語や文化を深く吸収していくために必要な土台とは、自国の言語や文化に対する正しい知識と良識であり、日本人として恥じることのない教養を備えることこそ真の国際人としての一歩を踏み出すのに不可欠な要素であると考えます。KIU では日本語と英語両方の基礎的なコミュニケーション技術を養い、自国および他国に於いても自分の意見をしっかりと述べ、十分にコミュニケーションがとれる人材を育成します。

Discerning Citizens

People who function well in other cultures first understand their own government, history, religion and society. Upon that framework they can then learn and understand other cultural, racial and ethnic groups in the global society. KIU is dedicated to teaching people from the West their own historical, political, religious and cultural backgrounds so that they may become first and foremost good citizens of their respective countries. Upon this foundation they are taught about Japan and the discipline in which they major. Basic communication skills are taught in both English and Japanese so students will learn to achieve a high level of competency in their own language. 

考える（知的想像力）教育

多くの大学に見られる問題の一つは、教養科目の授業が「大教室・大人数」で行われ、聴講するだけの無味乾燥な授業となってしまっている点です。その結果、学んだ知識を「考える」ことに結びつけることができない大学生が多くいるように思います。KIUでは、学生が正しく理解し、理論的に考え、自分の考えを正確に述べる「訓練の場」として授業を位置付け、一方通行の講義を行なうのではなく、学生が積極的に参加することでその好奇心を満たし得る授業を行っています。

Learning to Think

KIU does not teach students what they are to think. Rather, they are educated in how to think, how to analyze, and to pose the question "Why?". Not only are the faculty determined to make students think, but the very environment of KIU, with its rich multi-national, multicultural setting, exposes each student to a myriad of different outlooks on life, causing each to evaluate ideas and concepts he or she had taken for granted.

キリスト教主義に基づく

KIU は保守福音派のキリスト教大学として、聖書の道徳と価値観を土台とした教育を行なっています。変動を続ける社会の中にあって、堅実で意味のある人生を見出す機会を提供しているのです。

Christian Foundation

KIU is a conservative Christian university with a mission to acquaint students with the basic teachings of the Bible in relation to morals and values. KIU is dedicated to giving students an opportunity to find stability and meaning in life in an ever-changing society.

国際的環境の日常化

視野を国際的なレベルにまで広げてゆくためには、国際的な環境の中に身を置くことが必要です。しかし、日常においては、国際的な環境とは留学生を有する大学構内においてでさえも、それはまさに「非日常」であり、非常に限られた人々だけが身を置くことの出来る環境と言わざるを得ないのが現実です。

KIUでは日英二カ国語によるバイリンガル教育によって、学生生活の最も日常的部分である授業の中で、クロスカルチャー・コミュニケーション（異文化交流）を体験し、より広い視野を養うことを目指しています。
